Team Building Tip #1

Hey guys!

A key to having the most successful summer possible, it is crucial to have a high staff moral. This all begins with staff training.

In this blog I will introduce a team building exercise that is great for everyone learning each others name. The sooner you are able to recollect everyones' names, the better.

This activity/game is called Alaskan Baseball.

In this game you separate your staff into two teams or groups. Next, one group starts with an object that can be thrown, but not thrown very far away. At my camp we use a rubber chicken. As the team throws the 'chicken' out onto the field the other team has to retrieve it and form a single file line. The first person in that line then puts the chicken under their legs and passes it to the person behind them. Next, the person has to pass the chicken over their head to the next person. This pattern repeats until the last person in line has the chicken. Then, they must pass the chicken back up the same way it came down.

At the same time, the other team designates one person to be in the center of the circle that the rest of the team forms around them. The person in the circle must go around the circle and say each members name. Once they get around the circle once, they have scored a run. The person in the middle then continues around the circle to see how many runs they can score before the other team can pass the chicken up and down the line.

When the team finishes passing the chicken, they immediately throw the chicken and form a circle and attempt to score runs.
