Evening Program #1

Hey everyone!

Tonight I thought we could talk about evening programs. For me evening programs were an essential part of camp. It brings the whole camp together for a fun game/activity.

Tonights evening program is Commando.

Commando is similar to counselor hunt for those of you who know that game. At our residential camp we had two counselors to a cabin, so we would take one of them as a person to "hide". We typically had around 7-8 counselors/unit directors hide throughout camp. Each sector that they were hiding in had a point value ranging from 25-150 points based on proximity from the start. The game is played a dusk so everyone wears black or another dark color so they are harder to detect. Each cabin is a team together. They must stay together on their hunt for the bases, trying not to get caught by the counselors hiding. The staff hiding can send the cabin back only by naming the counselor or the name of the cabin (which is hard when it is getting dark). When a cabin reaches a bases successfully, they must sing a nursery rhyme to get the points. A time limit is set and the team to gain the most amount of points wins!

This game can be altered to fit a camps individual needs as well. Campers love this game the most and look forward to it year after year. I have had staff that are more excited to play than the campers sometimes!

More evening programs and other great information to come later!
