Importance of Original Camp Skits

Hello!

Today, I'm going to talk about the importance of having original skits for your summer camp.

Every camp functions differently, so skits may take place during campfires, talent nights, etc... For me skits are what I remember most from my summer camp experiences, because we made most of our skits originally. We geared them to be more personal to camp. For example, we may have a skit about a funny event that had happened to a staff member and their cabin/group of campers. This way not only is it something new that even returning campers haven't seen, its something that had happened at camp and will make it easier to remember in the future.

From my experiences, these skits were the funniest and most fun to preform. If you are going to make a skit about other staff, please be sure to okay it with that staff member so their are no hard feelings! Also, you can take old skits and revamp them to your camp. For example, you can take the director skit, where you have a director, cameraman/woman, and actors, acting out any scene from your camp that is well known and personalize it in any way. My favorite director skits were to do the scene originally, then speed it up, with funny accents, etc...

Overall, to make camp even more memorable, try to make some original skits. Have campers come up with some on their own. If its a day camp, have them think of themes for skits at home for the next day. Or if it is a residential camp, set time aside before bed to think of an original skit.

I will post more on skits this weekend, but don't forget to follow our twitter @summer_camp101

Thanks!
